Compassionate Pragmatism

Compassionate Pragmatism, founded in 2011, provides training and consulting for implementing evidenced-based alcohol and drug prevention and treatment programs delivered at colleges and universities, substance abuse treatment centers, and community corrections agencies.  Our clients are located across the United States, Canada, Chile, and Malta.

Compassionate Pragmatism specializes in teaching practitioners to deliver evidence-based alcohol and drug prevention and treatment programs with fidelity to their research supported core components. Our workshops teach practitioners to express their natural style of caring and compassion while delivering highly structured programs that are nonetheless tailored to the unique characteristics of each client. 

   

Two of our programs, BASICS (Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students) and Relapse Prevention Therapy (RPT) are listed on SAMHSA's (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices (NREPP).

In the college alcohol abuse prevention field, our CHOICES About Alcohol program published by The Change Companies®, like BASICS, is a delivery modality of the evidence-based Alcohol Skills Training Program (ASTP) designed for use in groups. CASICS (Cannabis Screening and Intervention for College Students), our program focused on marijuana use, was created by Dr. Parks using the same Core Components as the BASICS program, modified to focus on Marijuana.

George A. Parks, Ph.D., our founder and president, is a co-developer of BASICS and Relapse Prevention Therapy, and the developer of CHOICES About Alcohol and CASICS. George delivers all of our training and consulting services.
